I have lived in the Stewartry since 1988. I am now retired but my working career was people orientated, as a WRNS office, a personnel officer and social worker. Latterly I worked for Dumfries and Galloway Council in Community Learning, firstly organising evening classes and then supporting the adult literacy programme and teaching English as a second language. I recognise the importance of IT skills in every aspect of our lives which is why I serve a trustee of the Centre.

I have lived in Castle Douglas most of my life, apart from a time away to study at College. I served in the Royal Observer corps for 17 years until being stood down by the government. I am married with 2 boys and 7 grandchildren. I have served on the Community Council for over 30 years where I am Treasurer, I have also been Chairman of Castle Douglas Primary School Board as well as the local branch or the Royal British Legion and Castle Douglas IT Centre. I am Manager of the Golden Day Club in the Community Centre where we offer some company to the elderly of the town. As well as being treasurer of Castle Douglas Community Initiative and United Skate Foundation, I have always had an interest in IT and I continue to serve as a Board member at the IT Centre where I have been for some 20 years or so and enjoy it very much.

I have lived in the Castle Douglas area for the last 15 years and currently manage a Big Lottery funded project called Connecting in Communities. For more than the last twenty years I have worked in the IT and Telecoms industry where my job took me all over the world. I know how critical and dependent we have become on be able to use IT in our everyday lives. To that end I believe the CD IT Centre has played a big part in helping people in and around Dumfries and Galloway and specifically the Stewartry with IT training and awareness. Some six years ago I worked with the folks at the IT Centre in helping to deliver computer training out with Castle Douglas, this I did for a couple of years and had much fun and enjoyment doing this. Therefore I consider it a privilege to now be a member of the Centre’s board and look forward to a great future for the organization which I hold dear.
